Realistically, very few people want to retire to do nothing. Most want to retire to do the things they have not had time to do previously. Many enjoy having a go at new activities but are also happy to contribute by sharing their skills and experience to benefit fellow residents.

Real value comes from taking part. Well being and a sense of belonging are enhanced by participating in any community. This is even more so in a retirement village community where you share interests and lifestyle factors with your neighbours.

When the physical surroundings are pleasant, inviting and practical, it encourages contentment and satisfaction which further enhances the value of community living.

"When I wake up in the morning and hear the birds chirping in the tree outside the bedroom window I am happy.

When we chat with neighbours in our street, I know I am in a friendly place. To see the well-kept lawn in the front of our unit and know that I don't have to mow it is real beaut.

When at indoor bowls or pool I have a relaxed game with friends, life is good. To know that we are cared for by a dedicated staff is very comforting."

"St. James has been my retirement living choice for more than 3 years and I couldn't be happier. I have made many friends over the time I have lived here but I also enjoy the privacy and personal space my unit offers. The professional and friendly staff keep things working and it gives me peace of mind to know they are there should I need anything. I really enjoy my regular cards night and another of my favourite activities is mixing with my fellow residents for Friday afternoon happy hour. St. James is a special place and I hope to be here for many years to come."

"I love living here. It feels safe and secure to know that people are close by if anything should happen and that gives me peace of mind. It is really convenient to have things like the hair salon and restaurant on the premises should you decide to use them. I often catch up with my neighbours for a cuppa and I am heavily involved in all the social activities that happen here. When I am home, I get to enjoy complete privacy and have a great outdoor living area. It's the best of both worlds and I would recommend living here to anyone."
